Personality:
Above everything else one can find in the world, Hikawa prizes efficiency. He appreciates things that work and, not just work, but work smoothly and well. Everything should have its part and, in having such, should carry out and do its part. In many ways he feels there’s no need to know these things – or in the instance of his interactions with others, these people – beyond the parts they play and the roles they carry out. Knowing such information is extraneous; one does not need to know what makes a specific cog the way it is so long as the cog provides the function it’s meant to have. Attention only needs to be given when the cog no longer works.

This should help give an indication of how cold a man Hikawa is. Outwardly he’s an imposing figure, wearing a permanent poker face that seems to always be on the brink of tipping over into a scowl. Inwardly he’s just as bad. Hikawa always maintains the impression of being calm and collected and in fact seems to be unbothered by anything. His tone is always neutral when speaking, almost pleasantly conversational if it wasn’t for his other mannerisms, even when in deep debate. He seems to possess an incredible amount of patience, and that serves him well when commanding the demons that he can summon and who have fallen in behind his Reason in the Vortex world. He’s a man who seems to not only take control and lead his side to victory, but a man entirely in control of his own thoughts and passions. Deep down, however, he’s enraged and disgusted by what he’s come to see as a decadent and crumbling society in the way mankind upholds itself. Hikawa believes that mankind’s passions are inherently dangerous and, in a manner, blinding. The life of a man is a life in trying to find itself, and a man does this by pursuing his passions. However, in pursuing these passions a man becomes lost, and this lost leads to conflict both internally for the man and externally in aim against others with differing passions. This kind of behavior irks and strikes against Hikawa’s sense of efficiency; it’s no wonder the world is in such a pathetic state of disrepair. When a man himself cannot know what he wants, or at times does figure out what he wants and finds he must compete with all others around him, how might the world function? It is because of this inefficiency that Hikawa strives for the creation of the world of Shijima, a world where the passions and desires of men are neutralized and all may act as one within the world. That all may act as one as the world, all people being in constant agreement and no longer needing to strive against one another because of that, thus allowing the world to truly become an effective and, thus, beautiful place. A world without emotions, because emotions fail to have power any more. A world of silence.

The fact that this drive to create the world of Shijima is, in fact, a passion itself is either lost on Hikawa or, more likely, something he merely chooses not to acknowledge such.

Hikawa appears to have few personal relationships, and when he is in these relationships he appears to view them in terms of what he has to do in order to get what he needs out of the people around him. His coldness extends into nearly every relationship he seems to have, and this is best exemplified in his relationship with Yuko Takao. Hikawa originally enlisted Takao’s help in facilitating the Conception and in helping bring about his reason by making her the Assembly of Nihilo’s “Maiden of Creation”. Telling Takao this role would be used to make her the pillar of the new world he was creating, Hikawa would betray Takao when it became necessary in order to use her powers to gather Magatsuhi to help further the path to creating the world of stillness that would be embodied in Shijima. In the end, people are just another tool to Hikawa. They aren’t living things, but tools and devices much like cogs and once their role is finished they may be discarded and displaced. The happiness, freedom, and caring about people mean nothing to Hikawa; their only value is what they can add to furthering the path towards Shijima.

Hikawa does take an interest in one of the students Takao had made sure survived the Conception, a boy named Naoki who would later end up becoming a half-demon known as the Demifiend. Surprised both by Naoki’s survival and his growing power, Hikawa would become concerned that, while the Demifiend could not form a Reason himself, he could heavily affect the outcome of the Conception and the battle to decide which Reason would become the victor in the Vortex World. For this reason, and this alone, Hikawa would attempt to persuade the Demifiend that Shijima was the best possible outcome for the new world. If he can’t do this, Hikawa will kill the Demifiend. Again, even when a creature might show up that is unique, it hardly interests Hikawa on what to do with it/him/her or how to interact beyond how it will affect the outcome of his world and what he can do to make the most of that affect. All things are equal already in Hikawa’s eyes, even when they’re not.

Canon Powers:
None. Hikawa appears to have an incredibly detailed understanding of magic, demons, and the occult thanks to his role in the cult of Gaia and later his knowledge of the Scripture of Miroku, but otherwise he seems to have no canon powers.

Canon Allies:
In regards to the game, Hikawa does appear to have the power to summon demons. However it seems heavily hinted his ability to summon demons is solely through manipulation of the Amala Network and, at times, his own forces back at the Vortex World simply responding to his command instead of traditional demon summoning as many other demon summoners in the SMT universe seem to be able to do. As he does seem to summon demons I’ll list some of those that respond to him and his summons throughout the game, but feel free to negate this as some of his summoning seems very circumstantial. He seems to primarily summon/have allies from the Fallen branch of demons, and I’ll list four here that he seems to have a particular affinity with.
